Who created the OPEN
The Open was created by Greg Glassman. Glassman has developed the Open as a competition open to all athletes from around the world, where athletes can test themselves and compete with other athletes globally.
Greg Glassman in the 1990s developed a fitness program based on high-intensity functional exercises, with the aim of creating more complete and prepared athletes to face any physical challenge. Thanks to this formula has been a great success and has created a community of fitness enthusiasts around the world.
The Open has become an important annual event for the community and has helped spread the popularity of the fitness program around the world. Even after Glassman’s departure in 2020, the Open continues to be an annual reference competition for athletes from around the world.
How the OPEN
The Open takes place completely online, with a series of 3 workouts (“WOD” – Workout of the Day) that are released on a weekly basis during a period of 3 weeks.
Each workout consists of a set of high-intensity functional exercises, which must be completed in the shortest time possible or with as many repetitions as possible over a given period of time.
Workouts are designed to test athletes’ physical abilities, including strength, endurance, speed, flexibility and coordination.
Athletes participate in the Open by uploading their scores for each training on the official website of the organizers. Scores are then ranked globally, nationally, and regionally, allowing athletes to compare with other athletes around the world.
The Open is open to all athletes, from beginners to professionals, and takes place in different categories, including men and women of different ages, adolescent categories and categories of athletes with special needs.
At the end of the five training sessions, athletes with the best scores can qualify to participate in the Games, the annual competition that sees the best athletes from around the world compete for the title of “Fittest on Earth” (the fittest on Earth).
